Haynes depicts the 55-foot keelboat that carried the Corps of Discovery up the Missouri River in 1804. The keelboat was the expedition’s largest vessel, capable of carrying 10 tons of supplies and propelled by sail, oar, pole, or tow rope. Haynes is known for his painstaking research into period clothing, equipment, and vessels, making his work a valuable visual reference for expedition historians.
