										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia holds the largest portion of the Lewis and Clark botanical collection. Philadelphia was the center of American science during the expedition era, and the Academy received many of the plant specimens collected during the journey. The Academy also played a role in training Lewis before the expedition, as several of his tutors were affiliated with Philadelphia&#8217;s scientific institutions.</p>
