The Treaty with the Sauk and Foxes of 1824 was signed on August 4, 1824 between the U.S. and the Sauk and Fox tribes. Under this treaty, the Sauk and Fox ceded land between the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers in Missouri to the U.S. In exchange, the U.S. agreed to pay them annuities for 10 years and provide a blacksmith, farming supplies and cattle. It established a small reservation for “half-breeds” of the tribes between the Des Moines and Mississippi Rivers. The treaty aimed to remove the tribes from Missouri through land cession in exchange for annuities.
