]]> The Treaty with the Ottawa, Chippewa, and Potawatomi of 1816 was signed on August 24, 1816 between these tribes and the United States. It settled a land dispute stemming from an 1804 treaty with the Sauk and Fox by having the tribes cede disputed lands to the U.S. In return, the U.S. agreed to pay them annual goods for 12 years. The treaty established boundaries for the land cession and hunting rights for the tribes within it. It aimed to resolve the contested land claims through negotiated cession in exchange for annuities.
