Piankashaw

The Piankashaw (Peanguichia) were a band of the Miami-Illinois confederacy whose homeland was centered on the lower Wabash River valley in present-day Indiana and Illinois. They were closely allied with the Wea and Miami nations and spoke a dialect of the Miami-Illinois Algonquian language. The Piankashaw entered into treaties with the United States that ceded their lands in the Wabash region. They were later consolidated with other Miami-related bands and eventually removed to Indian Territory (Oklahoma), where their descendants are enrolled in the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma.
